Artist Statement - Unveiling

My abstract mixed media paintings serve as a conduit to bring forth my authentic core. In today's world, where our lives often feel like a constant performance, maintaining a true sense of identity can be a challenge. Amidst the daily deluge of social media, this struggle is all too familiar for a chronic people-pleaser like myself. But, while I grappled to find my core identity,
I found that the artist within me already held the answer.

Behind my easel, the irresistible urge to splash bold colours and textures across the canvas grew stronger with each stroke. Eventually, I had no choice but to grant myself permission to create from my core.

Drawing from over a decade and a half of experience with acrylics, I explore the vivid jewel tones and delicate textures that haunted my visions for years, aiming to craft images that exude both bold vibrancy and an ethereal lightness.

“Unveiling" is an ongoing exploration, delving into the realm of subtle textures and luminous effects achieved by layering different viscosities and translucencies of acrylic paints. I merge these with materials such as washi paper, oil pastels, sand, and alcohol to create depth and intrigue.

No longer the director in the studio, I allow the paintings to lead the way. Working simultaneously on multiple pieces to break free from the need to control every step, I carefully contemplate each artwork from every angle before adding the next layer, shifting to a singular focus only when I sense the piece nearing completion.

Every creation begins with a single colour, shaped organically by water and alcohol. With a light hand, I guide each layer, enhancing and pushing back where needed, coaxing out a glow that seems to emanate from within—a reflection of my soul captured in Art.

In a world clamouring for our attention, it becomes crucial to silence the noise and listen to the voice within. We must protect and nurture our inner sanctuary to safeguard our mental and emotional well-being. As I journey through this path of exploration and self-discovery, I eagerly anticipate following the Art to new and wondrous destinations.
