Mixed Media on Washi

30” x 19.5” | 76 cm x 49.5 cm

Private collector, Canada

To someone who has never traveled to Japan this may seem like an odd juxtaposition, the lady in the beautiful, traditional silk Kimono and the modern, almost garish vending machine. But to someone who is familiar with the country this is a very recognizable sight. Summers in Japan are hot and humid and filled with matsuri’s (local festivals) that draw hundreds of women dressed up in their colorful Yukatas and Kimonos for the occasion. Japan is also a country of convenience, you will find vending machines on almost every corner, you’ll find them in the middle of a forest and there’s even one on the top of Mount Fuji. So seeing these two together is not as odd as it might seem at first glance.

This mixed media painting on authentic, handmade Washi (Japanese paper) with beautiful natural edges on all sides. The painting is created using a combination of image transfer and acrylic paints and mediums. The artwork is signed on the front and has title, date, artist name on the back. It comes with a signed certificate of authenticity from the artist.
