HYPNOTIC

Mixed Media on Washi

57” x 15” | 145 cm x 38 cm

Collector: Noda Masako san, Japan.

‘Hypnotic’ depicts two Maiko san admiring Fuji san, Japan’s iconic mountain. Seeing Fuji san in person is a magical experience, the mountain rises up out of the mostly flat landscape which makes is seem even larger and more majestic. She’s also illusive, often shrouding herself in fog and clouds, which was the case the first time we visited. We had rain the entire drive, we left the highway and had to drive around the mountain to get to our destination, the entire time seeing nothing but a grey fog. About 20 minutes from our destination we entered a tunnel and when we emerged on the other side the sky was blue and Fuji san loomed over us, larger then life, an enchanting and other worldly experience.
