CROWDFUNDING TO BRING ‘DISCOVERIES: MONTREAL’ TO THE CROWD
Indiegogo campaign for an art book that features all the boroughs on the island of Montreal.
Montreal, May 21, 2013. Montreal-based Dutch artist, Denise Buisman Pilger, has started an Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign to help extend her series ‘Discoveries: Montreal’ in the form of an art book. ‘Discoveries: Montreal’ is a series of acrylic photo collages created by the artist, over a period of two years from 2011 to 2013. In this series, she was inspired to explore each of the unique and picturesque villages that make up the Island of Montreal. The campaign started on May 18 and will run for 40 days, ending on Wednesday June 23. It can be found at http://igg.me/at/ArtBook-DiscoveriesMontreal.
Having moved to the city in 2009, Denise immediately set about discovering her new home town, camera in hand. The artist took the time to visit and photograph each of Montreal’s 34 boroughs, driving, -biking and walking, her mission was to capture the iconic and quirky details that give each borough its distinct character in a tapestry of villages that make up the island’s rich landscape.
This crowdfunding campaign will raise funds to help realize the artists’ dream of publishing an art book of ‘Discoveries: Montreal’. “The pieces of the series can be enjoyed on their own but they are most powerful as a whole, this art book is the way to keep the series together,” explains the artist. With contibutions starting as low as $5.- there are some great rewards, ranging from personalized cards and high quality prints to acknowledgements in the book and signed copies.
Born and raised in the Netherlands, Denise has a Bachelors Degree in Illustration from the Willem de Kooning Academy of Arts in Rotterdam. Denise’s work reflects her love of photography and painting, configured into graphic pseudo-realities of everyday life filtered through her own whimsical creative lens. From her home-based studio, she produces city-scapes that are graphic, contemporary and yet, nostalgic.
Having worked on this project in her studio for more then two years, the artists is looking forward to sharing it with the world in the form of this book. This campaign offers the rare opportunity to be part of an artistc project that gives a unique view of this island metropolis in “la belle provence”.
